MATH Vocabulary Words

Place Value: The value of the position of the digit; such as units, tens, hundreds, thousands, etc.

Digit: Any numeral from 0-9

Standard Form: A name of the whole number written in customary form (187,059)

Expanded Notation (Expanded Form): A way of writing numbers as a sum of each digit and its place value (100,000+80,000+7,000+50+9)

Word Form: A way of writing numbers in a written form (One Hundred Eighty Seven Thousand, Fifty Nine)

Period: A three-digit grouping of  a number on the place value chart

Sum: The answer to an addition problem

Difference: The answer to a subtraction problem

Product: The answer to a multiplication problem

Quotient: The answer to a division problem
